Pelvic Floor Relaxation

Pelvic floor relaxation exercises are a great way to improve symptoms in patients with Dysfunctional Voiding, External Sphincter Dys-synergias and Bladder pain Syndrome. The pain in these conditions actually arises from a complex area that involves multiple components. Pelvic floor strain or spasm is one such domain where a patient needs to work.

All exercises should be directed to relaxing the pelvic floor rather than contracting it. KEGEL EXERCISES ARE CONTRAINDICATED in patients with pelvic floor spasms. Kegel exercises increase the tone of the pelvic muscles while the goal of management in pelvic floor spasms and dysfunctional voiding is to rather reduce the tone of the pelvic muscles and make them relaxed.

The pelvic floor muscle relaxation exercises involve relaxing the entire pelvic floor by lying down on a flat surface and spreading the legs wide apart.

  1. Choose a comfortable moderately cushioned surface to lie down
  2. Spread your legs apart so that there is a gap of at least one feet between the two.
  3. Identify your urethral, vaginal and anal opening and try to relax these muscles while resting
  4. Try the relaxation spreading to the lower limbs as well and the entire pelvic floor
  5. 10 to 15 minutes of this relaxing exercise should be performed both in the morning and the evening

If you are not able to perform these exercises on your own you can take the help of our biofeedback devices to manage the condition further. We have a team of professional physiotherapists both in-house and nearby who can help you reduce the pelvic floor tone so that your urine case pass easily and the pain is reduced significantly.
